Thank You @kartheevidya for these notes

Some of the key statistics shared in the meeting include:

  • 14,000 registered volunteers participated in the event. There were estimated 3000 unregistered volunteers as well.
  • The total distance covered was 42.9 km along the beach and 28-29 km along the beach stretches.
  • Around 13.2 lakh (1.32 million) pieces of trash were collected.
  • Total volunteer hours worked were estimated at 70,000 hours.
  • This is equivalent to 2001 man-days of work or hiring 291 sanitation workers for a month.
  • Around 168 tons of total trash (wet and dry waste) was collected during the event.

Some partnership for the Beach Cleanup includes:

  • Schools and colleges.
  • Corporate and business houses to engage their employees. Ex: Titan, Tanishq, Reliance Stores etc.
  • NGOs and community associations like workers associations, apartment communities, singers associations, dancers groups etc.
  • Government organizations like the forest department and local corporations/panchayats for waste management.
  • Private organizations and vendors for activities like first aid, transport, catering etc.

The coastal cleanup is organized in the following way:

  • Advance planning and coordination is done over 3 months with induction programs every Friday to train partner organizations.
  • Locations along the coast are divided into zones and teams are assigned specific stretches to clean.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to participate in teams representing their organizations with unique identifiers like uniforms/props.
  • On the day of the event, various entertainment/engagement activities are organized like singing, games to keep volunteers motivated.
  • Safety measures involve partnering with local groups for security, first aid and ambulances stationed along the stretches.
  • Waste collection is coordinated with municipal bodies and private vendors for disposal.
  • Post event data on collection quantity, volunteer hours etc is captured for reporting impact.
